Rhode Island Authors Showcase - Featuring Tabitha Lord!
The Rhode Island Authors Showcase is back! Each day in November, I’ll be featuring a different RI author. Each post features a giveaway – a book, an anthology, or something else! All you have to do to be eligible for the daily drawing is leave a comment on the blog post. I’ll use a random number generator to pick a winner one week after the blog post (to give you time to catch up).
By commenting on each post, you’re also entered to win our bigger prizes: GRAND PRIZE is a $250 Amazon gift card, BONUS PRIZE is a $100 Amazon gift card, and the CHEER UP YOU WON SOMETHING PRIZE is a $50 Amazon gift card. The big prizes will be chosen, again using a random number generator, on December 7.
Tabitha Lord’s HORIZON science fiction series has received several independent book awards including the Writer’s Digest Grand Prize in 2016. Her short fiction has been featured on StarShipSofa, Tales to Terrify, and in various anthologies. In addition to fiction writing, Tabitha is a partner and senior writer for Book Club Babble and Vice President of the Association of RI Authors. Recently, she’s tried her hand writing romantic suspense under the pen name, Maggie Clare. She lives in Rhode Island with her husband, four kids, and menagerie of fur babies.
I've got some questions for Tabitha:
What is your hometown? North Kingstown, Rhode Island
What genre(s) do you write? speculative fiction (science fiction, fantasy, urban fantasy, a little horror); and as Maggie - romantic suspense
What have you written? HORIZON (2016), INFINITY (2018), EQUINOX (2019), DREAMWALKER (on submission) – by Tabitha Lord
SING FOR ME (2020), RUN AND HIDE (2021), LOST AND FOUND (2021), MOVING TARGET (2022) – by Maggie Clare
Who are three of your favorite authors now? Sarah J. Maas, Andy Weir, Madeline Miller
What were your favorite books growing up? The Black Stallion, Summer Pony, Little House on the Prairie
What do you like best about writing? I love the ability to dive deeply into other worlds or into my characters’ experiences.
What do find most challenging about writing? Writing the middle of the book! The novelty of a new idea has worn off, but the ending isn’t in sight yet.
Where do you draw your inspiration? It really depends on the project. Sometimes an idea will come to me when I’m out hiking. Other times, I’m watching a show or reading a book and I think, “Wow, that was an excellent way to solve a plot tangle. Or, I really like how this character has evolved.”
You’ve just been given the chance to collaborate on a book with Sarah J. Maas. What’s the title going to be? I’ll be writing book titled Dragon Dancers. I really, really want to write a high fantasy story soon!

HORIZON: Caeli Crys isn't living—she's surviving. On the run after the genocide of her empathic people, she witnesses a spaceship crash near her hidden camp. When she feels the injured pilot suffering from miles away, she can't help but risk discovery to save his life. Commander Derek Markham awakens stranded on an uncharted planet. His co-pilot is dead, his ship is in ruins, and he's only alive because a beautiful young woman is healing him with her mind. As Derek recovers, Caeli shares the horror of her past and her fear for the future. When Derek's command ship, Horizon, sends rescue, Derek convinces Caeli to leave with him. But his world is as treacherous as hers—full of spies, interplanetary terrorist plots, and political intrigue. Soon the Horizon team is racing to defend an outlying planet from a deadly enemy, and Caeli's unique skills may just give them the edge they need to save it.
SING FOR ME:
Jake Evans isn’t looking for love when he walks into a dive bar while on leave, just a beer and a no-strings hookup. Fiona Flynn isn’t even looking for a date. She’s got a musical career to launch and a past heartache to overcome. When Jake sees the stunning singer on stage, he knows he wants her – maybe for more than one night. Fiona can’t deny the chemistry between them, and she can’t ignore her growing feelings for the hot sailor with the easy smile. Their sweet, sexy, long-distance love affair comes to a screeching halt when Jake is injured overseas. Wrecked body and soul, Jake can’t imagine a different kind of life, for himself or with Fiona. But when the unthinkable happens, and Fiona’s life hangs in the balance, Jake will have to rediscover his inner warrior in order to save her.
Tabitha will give away a signed copy of either HORIZON or Sing for Me (winner's choice). Specify which book you'd prefer in the comments section. And please us for the 10th Annual Rhode Island Authors Expo on Saturday, December 3, 2022 if you're nearby!
