Rhode Island Authors Showcase - Featuring M.Z. Medenciy!
The Rhode Island Authors Showcase is back! Each day in November, I’ll be featuring a different RI author. Each post features a giveaway – a book, an anthology, or something else! All you have to do to be eligible for the daily drawing is leave a comment on the blog post. I’ll use a random number generator to pick a winner one week after the blog post (to give you time to catch up).
By commenting on each post, you’re also entered to win our bigger prizes: GRAND PRIZE is a $250 Amazon gift card, BONUS PRIZE is a $100 Amazon gift card, and the CHEER UP YOU WON SOMETHING PRIZE is a $50 Amazon gift card. The big prizes will be chosen, again using a random number generator, on December 7.
Micha Medenciy is a new member of the RI Authors group, and I'm thrilled to feature her on my blog today! I asked her some questions:
Micha, what name do you write under? M.Z Medenciy
Where is your hometown? Providence/East Providence
What genre(s) do you write? Fantasy/Urban Fantasy
What is the title of your book? Island Eight (published 2022)
Who are your favorite authors? Silvia Moreno-Garcia, Neil Gaiman, J.R.R Tolkien
What were some of the books you enjoyed reading when you were younger? Jane Eyre, And Then There Were None, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland
What do you like best about writing? I love writing because it's cathartic and freeing. Once I really get going, I feel my soul dancing away, crossing effortlessly through the light and darkness, transcribing images into words. When I write, I am elsewhere, and I love it.
What do find most challenging about writing? For me, finding the time and not feeling guilty about it, is extremely challenging. I can never say “Okay, from 1-5 I am going to sit down and write,” because life doesn’t work that way. I work, manage a household, and have two teen boys. Those three things take precedence. I also feel guilty shutting myself away to write, because I love it. Not the shutting away part, the writing part. God do I love it so much! So, I feel guilty that I am indulging myself to something that makes me happy and doesn’t exactly pay the bills. I was raised to work, do what you can to support the family. Job satisfaction was never factored into the equation. Even though things are different now, the guilt remains. My incredible husband and boys repeatedly tell me that it’s okay; nonetheless, I still feel guilty.
Where do you draw your inspiration? Dreams, daydreams, emotions - they tend to manifest themselves into these beasts that refuse to leave me unless I take pen to paper.
You’ve just been given the chance to collaborate on a book with Silvia Moreno-Garcia. What’s the title going to be? Discreet Violent Stars
I am feeling that title, *finds the first thing she can write on and jots notes* ^_^

Micha is giving away a copy of her book, Island Eight plus a handmade wooden bowl!
In a world on the verge of repeating a cataclysmic history, Sophia, a Salinian entertainer, unknowingly holds the key to the world's salvation. She intentionally overlooks their king's tyranny to ensure her happiness, but not even the gods can protect her when the eyes of the castle alight upon her town. After narrowly escaping death with the aid of a mysterious man who whisks her away to once-forbidden lands, Sophia is unwillingly sucked into the brewing war she had so desperately evaded.
In Island Eight by M.Z. Medenciy, Sophia embarks on an unprecedented journey where she encounters new dangers through magic-wielding Fae, discovers a resilience within her she never thought possible, and uncovers a history of the gods and their planet that will change the lives of all forever.
You can win just by leaving a comment below and telling us an island you've loved visiting or would love to visit.
