RI Authors Showcase and Giveaway! Meet Joann Mead

Each day this month, meet a Rhode Island author! Comment on this blog post for a chance to win our Grand Prize (a $200 Amazon gift card) or our Bonus Prize (a $100 Amazon gift card). Some authors are giving away books, too - your comment enters you into their drawing as well. (See details at the bottom of this page)

Joann Mead's writing is inspired by the places she's lived and traveled and life’s adventures along the way. Some of her novels are local while others span the globe. Her mysteries and thrillers are connected by the “underlying crimes” of genetic design. Underlying Crimes, Joann's first novel, is a crime story and medical mystery set in a tiny New England state known for its culture of corruption. Her second novel, Tiger Tiger, is an international bioterror thriller. A femme fatale scientist creates a deadly pandemic Tiger Flu virus and plots to target America (yikes!). Joann's third novel, Designer Baby, is set in Scandinavia and Rhode Island. It speculates on the real and imagined possibilities of customized, gene-edited super-human babies and the creation of genetic weapons. The central theme is the power to control life itself and the lure of playing god. It asks the question, “If you could design your own child, would you?”

Joann has generously offered to gift a copy of her novel Designer Baby: Underlying Crimes (a signed print copy or a Kindle ebook (outside of U.S., Kindle only, please). Just leave a comment on this blog post to be entered.

Joann Mead has lived in four countries ranging from A to Z: America (USA), London, England (UK), Moscow, Russia (back in the USSR), and Zimbabwe (Africa). She is a writer, educator, and researcher.

In addition to her thrillers and bio-crime novels, Joann writes screenplays, short stories, and magazine articles. Her short story “Married in Moscow” is a 1980 memoir of a most unusual wedding and a most unusual Englishman. It was selected for inclusion in the 2020 ARIA anthology Hope.
