Rhode Island Authors Showcase - Featuring Belle DeCosta!

The Rhode Island Authors Showcase is back! Each day in November, I’ll be featuring a different RI author. Each post features a giveaway – a book, an anthology, or something else! All you have to do to be eligible for the daily drawing is leave a comment on the blog post. I’ll use a random number generator to pick a winner one week after the blog post (to give you time to catch up).

By commenting on each post, you’re also entered to win our bigger prizes: GRAND PRIZE is a $250 Amazon gift card, BONUS PRIZE is a $100 Amazon gift card, and the CHEER UP YOU WON SOMETHING PRIZE is a $50 Amazon gift card. The big prizes will be chosen, again using a random number generator, on December 7.

Belle A. DeCosta

I met Belle DeCosta a couple of years ago, but I feel as though we've known each other forever! She's genuine, smart, funny, and a very good writer. Here's a little more about Belle:

Where is your hometown? East Providence, RI

What genre(s) do you write? Memoir, Women’s Fiction

What have you written? Echoes in the Mirror, 2020, Treading Water, 2021

Who are some of your favorite authors? Colleen Hoover, Miranda Cowley Heller

What books did you enjoy reading growing up? Little Women, Little Women, Little Women (good one, Belle!)

What do you like best about writing?  For my memoir, it was revisiting my life with the benefit of age and wisdom, and the perspective it afforded. For my novel, I let my imagination and thoughts combine to create characters and their story. I don’t outline, so it fun to see where it all takes me, how their journey evolves and where it ends.

What do find most challenging about writing? Finding uninterrupted time to write!!

Where do you draw your inspiration? I’m very drawn to nature and find walking in the woods spiritual, meditative. Being surrounded by the ultimate creation of wonder and beauty increases my awareness and encourages my creativity.  Of course, interacting with my two-year-old grandson, hound Trista, and tribe of family and friends also energizes my creative cells and provides emotions and experiences that sometimes find their way into the story.

You’ve just been given the chance to collaborate on a book with Miranda Cowley Heller! What’s the title going to be? Inner Voices.

Meet Caroline McMerritt. Ambitious and driven, with a tongue as sharp as her mind, she is the top advertising executive for a prestigious Manhattan firm- until a particular circumstance takes a bite out of her edge, and she starts down a precipitous path.

Forced to take a hiatus or lose her job, and at the strong suggestion of a trusted brother, Caroline finds herself exiled to the abandoned family cabin in the backwoods of Maine.

Disgusted by her surroundings and enraged by the involuntary break, she vows to be unproductive and miserable, counting the days until she can return to the fast-paced life of her beloved NYC. But a telling moment brings Caroline face to face with her problem, and for the first time in her life, she feels out of control, lost. Panic ensues.

The discovery of a hidden treasure, buried in her deceased mother’s hope chest, helps her reset and restores her strong will. The unexpected gift not only provides the comfort of her mother’s presence but tells of secrets kept, past experiences lived, and lessons learned.

Join Caroline as she embarks on a journey of self-discovery, hard truths, friendship, and love, guided by the advice and wisdom of her late mother.

Will it be enough to save her?

NOTE: I loved this novel! Belle's writing is exemplary, and she knows how to tell a story. Want to win a copy? (Answer: yes, you do). Just answer this question? Would you rather live in New York City or in a remote corner of Maine?
