The Parent Trap Columns Volume I is the first in a two-volume collection of humorous and insightful observations on contemporary teen parenting by Michael A. Battey, an East Greenwich, Rhode Island based doctor. Published in community newspapers within Rhode Island over several years, the columns reflect the author’s personal experience along with commentary on parenting trends, and public education.  Each book comes with a reading rubber ducky!

From the editor of the East Greenwich Pendulum, who published his columns for many years: Sometimes you get lucky and such material falls into your lap. Michael Battey was such a case. I got a letter in the mail one day with an opinion piece on child-rearing from him and recognized that there was a place in our paper for this sort of editorial copy. Michael and I talked and we agreed to run a regularly occurring column on the difficulties of raising children in the 21st century, especially in an affluent, competitive town such as East Greenwich, RI. Michael filled the bill dependably and admirably for nearly a decade with his column "The Parent Trap," helping parents raise their children and us raise our circulation. With the release of a collection of his columns, it is good to see that his timeless parental wisdom will be reserved in print form. 

Michael A. Battey, D.P.M. was born and raised in Rhode Island. He received degrees from the University of Rhode Island, and the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine. He maintains a private practice in foot and ankle care with a specialty in hospital based residency training, and is a faculty member at the Brown University Alpert Medical School.

He was the author of The Parent Trap column, published from 2005 – 2012 in the East Greenwich Pendulum and sister newspapers in the Southern Rhode Island Newspaper Group. His interests include local education, squash racquets, and time at the beach with family and friends.
