Book-a-Day #Giveaway! Murder in the Valley by Rick Marchetti
Veteran homicide detective Dan McNulty may have retired from the force, but that doesn’t mean he’s ready for a shawl and rocking chair! The pitbull-like tenacity that served him so well in his commendation-filled career still burns within him. He takes occasional cases, but is tired of tailing cheating spouses or workmen’s compensation fraudsters. When his nephew brings a file to his attention, he’s more than a little curious. The file relates to a family that went missing in the small Connecticut town of Winfield some fifty years earlier.
As McNulty begins to look into the disappearances, he discovers evidence of shoddy police work and possibly something more serious: widespread corruption. Something else he discovers: the missing man, Pedro Colon, and his wife, Rosa, were known to be serious and hard-working, not the type of people who would just up and leave on a whim. Something happened to them; something much more serious than a case of wanderlust.
The local police didn’t see it that way, however. In 1964, they were perfectly content to say the family just wandered off. When a local reporter begins looking into the disappearance, he too goes missing. McNulty can’t walk away; it’s not in his nature. He has to find out who’s behind Murder in the Valley.
