Paris was at its cultural peak.Henri-Roger ExpertBorn in 1882, Expert first studied painting, but at the age of 24, he began studying under renowned French architect Gaston Redon. In 1921 he accepted a position as the official architect of national structures, and was responsible for the maintenance of the Louvre Palace, the Gobelins Manufactory (a tapesty factory), and the Panthรฉon.Louvre PalaceExpert's work tended towards Art Deco. He developed an expertise in architectural lighting, and his dramatic floodlighting for the 1937 Paris Exposition inspired Albert Speer to produce a "cathedral of light" in his short propaganda film, "Festive Nuremberg" in 1937.Expert died in 1951, and is buried in the French town of Arcachon.
