It starts this Monday, November 18 and runs all week, through Sunday, November 24. I hope you’ll join me online at Facebook (yes, this is a Facebook event) here

The Rhode Island Authors Showcase will feature 30 authors of varying genres (something for everyone!) – each author is giving away a prize at his or her Facebook page. I have a sweet chocolate sampler up for grabs. The chocolate is local (of course), from The Chocolate Delicacy in Warwick, Rhode Island. Dark, milk, white – it’s all there!

Each day you can visit the pages of the featured authors (four or five per day). Once you’ve visited and answered their questions, come back to the main page and answer the question of the day. Participate all seven days and you could win our Grand Prize, a $250 Amazon gift card, just in time for some serious holiday shopping. We’ve got a Bonus Prize as well for the runner-up, a Rhode Island-themed gift basket valued at $50.

I hope you’ll join in the fun! And don’t forget, locals – the Rhode Island Authors Expo is coming up on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at Rhodes-on-the-Pawtuxet from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm. Over 125 local authors will have signed books available! There will also be informative panels, author spotlights, the best raffles around, and Santa! Free parking, free admission.

And what better month than November? Days are shorter, nights are colder, and after the first week, no more election news!

Leading up to the Fourth Annual Rhode Island Authors Expo* on Saturday, December 3, I’ll be showcasing, each day in November, a different book written by a Rhode Island author. And you have an opportunity to WIN a copy of that book! These authors have very generously agreed to gift a copy of their book to one person.

All you need to do is comment on the daily post. Adding a comment helps the author achieve more visibility. Sharing on social media helps, too, are there are buttons at the bottom of the page for sharing. Each contest will end one week after the original publication date, and yes, you can win more than once! It’s all random. If you’re the winner, I’ll send the author your email address and they’ll coordinate delivery with you directly. So…thank you for following this blog and I hope you participate in next month’s Book-a-Day Giveaway!

To Be Free or Not?

It wasn’t an easy decision. Should I use some of the free days allotted to me by being in the Kindle Select (exclusive to Amazon) program for 90 days? That’s one of the benefits, if you call it that. Five free days to give away your book to whoever wants it.

One half of me thought, ‘I worked so hard on this book, spent a lot of money on editing, formatting, and besides, this is my full-time job now. I haven’t had a paycheck in over a year – why would I want to give away something I’d worked so hard to create and perfect?’

The other half said, ‘But the purpose of writing a book is for that book to be read, by as many people as possible. So even if you have to give it away, you’ll gain more exposure, and maybe (maybe!) those readers, if they like this book, will want to read your next novel.’

This past month was heady – because a lot of friends and family members downloaded my book and provided wonderfully positive feedback. They posted terrific reviews on Amazon. They shared the link with their own friends and helped me to promote it. Even some strangers let me know how much they liked it. It feels pretty good!

But now that we’re past the first month, it’s time to get this book noticed by people who don’t know me. So I’m on board with the free promotion, for today and tomorrow. If you haven’t had the chance to read “Chocolate for Breakfast” yet, here’s a great opportunity! If you had, you can gift it to someone you know.
