I chose 1981 music as my theme this year. My newest novel The Summer of Princess Diana is set in the summer of 1981, and oh! the music! Let’s take a look back at a pivotal time in the music industry.
Did you know that “Tainted Love” was originally recorded by singer Gloria Jones in 1964? I did not know!! It really became famous after it was reworked by the British synthpop duo Soft Cell in 1981. Let’s watch and listen to the 1981 hit first:
And here’s the original 1964 version by Gloria Jones:
I am the bestselling author of nine novels, including the Swiss Chocolate trilogy and VILLA DEL SOL, which won the 2018 Book Award in Literary Fiction from the Independent Publishers of New England.
My newest series includes the books A JINGLE VALLEY WEDDING, APRIL IN GALWAY, and ALL’S WELL IN JINGLE VALLEY.

I’m familiar with the remake, but I actually prefer the original version.
I like aspects of both versions. I think the backing music of the 1981 version was better but I prefer seeing people sing and dance rather than made up video clips.
This song was “the shape of things to come!!!” I also didn’t know it was a remake. Great job M! I was also amazed how cool the original sounded with out having the aid of all the electronic music! I love both versions! Lets now remember one of the greatest commercials of ALL TIME…..

This was one of my own personal faves of the 80s… and although I knew it have been a previous hit, I have never until today seen or heard the older version – and golly does it hold up well!!! Thank you so much for digging it out of the archives for us! YAM xx T=Thistle

I watched them both and the commercial. I like the original 1964 version by Gloria Jones best.

I like both versions, but Gloria Jones’ backup dancers really steal the show!

I’m glad I’m not scheduled for any type of surgery in the near future! I always wonder what they’re doing while I’m under! 😉

Soft Cell’s Tainted Love has always been a favourite of mine. Can’t believe it was that long ago!
I dropped out of A-Z this year because I was away quite a bit in April, and I really miss it!
