It’s Sunday (and Happy Easter to those who celebrate). Another Bonus Sunday to cram in a few extra 1981 songs for you.
Written and sung by Rosanne Cash, “Seven Year Ache” was released in February 1981 on Cash’s album of the same name. Yes, she’s the daughter of Johnny Cash and his first wife, Vivian.
This was Rosanne Cash’s first music video, filmed in Nashville and features Cash singing live to a crowd.
I am the bestselling author of nine novels, including the Swiss Chocolate trilogy and VILLA DEL SOL, which won the 2018 Book Award in Literary Fiction from the Independent Publishers of New England.
My newest series includes the books A JINGLE VALLEY WEDDING, APRIL IN GALWAY, and ALL’S WELL IN JINGLE VALLEY.
Find my books online at Amazon, locally at Stillwater Books (Pawtucket, Rhode Island) and Ink Fish Books (Warren, Rhode Island).

I’ve never heard this song before. The tune (and the hairdo!) seem to give a touch of a New Wave sound to a country song.
My husband and I saw her in concert at the Collins Center for the Arts at the University of Maine in Orono, just before the pandemic. Not usually my taste in music, but she was awesome that night.
One day I came home from a run and my husband was watching music videos, a favorite pastime. I heard a lovely rendition of the old tune, “Five Hundred Miles.”
“Who IS that?” I asked.
“Rosanne Cash.”
I was blown away and have since become a huge fan. Every time one of her songs comes up on my i-pod, I smile at the beauty of her voice and ability to envelop the lyrics.
P.S. She was a heavily featured “talking head” on Ken Burns’ series about the history of American Country music. Marvelous.
Her ex Rodney Crowell is pretty good, too.
Yes! Rosanne Cash has a bit of a connection to the Carter family, through her dad’s second wife June Carter. I love the history of country music.
Happy Easter, Connie!

It’s always nice to “see” someone edge out from under that long shadow of their famous parents! ZD

She is also a wonderful song writer.
