I chose 1981 music as my theme this year. My newest novel The Summer of Princess Diana is set in the summer of 1981, and oh! the music! Let’s take a look back at a pivotal time in the music industry.
Also known as “Believe It or Not,” this song was written by Mike Post, best known for his TV theme songs (Law and Order, NYPD Blue, The Rockford Files, among others). Sung by Joey Scarbury, it was his only hit. The TV show The Greatest American Hero ran on ABC from 1981 to 1983. I never watched it, but the theme song hit the pop charts. The show was about a high school teacher who gets superhuman abilities from a group of aliens. It also starred Robert Culp and Connie Sellecca, and the star, William Katt, first appeared as the unfortunate prom date of Carrie in Carrie.
Here’s the clip from the TV show:
Fans of Seinfeld will remember George Costanza changing his outgoing answering machine message to this:
It makes me want to go back and watch some of those episodes! ZD

Hi Linda,
I’m enjoying your blog!
I think the song had a good amount of radio airplay (man, that’s how I discovered music!). Love the Seinfeld clip, too!

I remember the show though it didn’t watch it.
Fun tidbit: William Katt’s mother was Barbara Hale who played Perry Mason’s secretary Della Street on the Raymond Burr series.

Looks like a humorous show. Believe it or not is such a peppy number.
