Debbie Kaiman Tillinghast is the author of The Ferry Home, a memoir about her childhood on Prudence Island, Rhode Island. When Martha files for divorce from her controlling and dismissive husband, Tony, she knows she’ll have to begin again. Tony persuaded her to abandon her dreams of chocolate and pastry fame, and to break a promise to her grandmother, to follow him and his dreams.
Martha’s heart pulls her back to her hometown in seaside Maine, to Gram, and to the bakery where Gram is still waiting for her to return. But before she can go home, Martha must learn who she really is, and her journey of discovery leads her south—from Baltimore and Tony’s betrayal, to the Gulf coast of Florida and the friends she’d made in culinary school, when her dreams had felt within her reach.
When she eventually returns to Baltimore, life offers her another chance at love. But Martha can’t believe in love again until she first believes in herself.

That waltz thing is tempting. My dream is to be an astronaut, a mere 50 miles above sea level. I would watch Captain Kirk on a regular basis and planned to travel the stars. How naive we were. Bill made it to 50+, I can too. Thank you!

Before life got busy I loved to travel. I dream of a few more adventures! I usually read these and post in the morning but it was fun to read all the comments. I look forward to seeing you at Christmas in the Village in Scituate.

Debbie, your book sounds great. Dreams, whether something wished for or wonderful insights during sleep, are precious. I must say I loved your website so much that I asked Pauline Wiles to design mine. She does great work. My dream (prayer) is for my grandkids to find the Lord and their way in this crazy world. Thank you, Alicia. I have a pair of Cardinals that visit my bird feeders every winter. They are such a bright color, and I love hearing their calls from the nearby woods.

What a remarkable life’s story, and I’d love to know how it all turned out! I look forward to reading it. I’ve never been much of a dreamer – that is of dreams with any realistic chance of coming true, so I just hope that in the end, I’ve done my best. I haven’t yet, but there’s still time. I hope that your “dream” is coming true!

I love the cover of your book. I love coastal scenes and especially with a lighthouse. Not exactly a dream but more of a desire, I had requested of my husband to build a pergola. It’s been in process for about three years but interrupted during the pandemic due to his pay cut. Full pay has been restored, and he’s now back to work on it. It’s looking good. I hope it’s completed by next year’s summer.

My dream is that everything wrong with the world will disappear when I wake up in the morning. Lately it is a recurring dream. But we can still live in our imaginary world of dreams, can’t we?

Debbie, a dream is like a bucket list, it is never empty. I once was told that you are never too old to dream, and I dream big. Five of my novels have scripts written and are in the hands of a website that caters solely to movie producers. I dream of one day having at least one of my novels made into a movie or television series. Wishful thinking, perhaps, but isn’t that what dreams are all about! Hope to see you at the Expo.

Your books are wonderful and your friendship even more so. I am blessed to have you in our lives. You should be so proud of your accomplishments. Maybe the one dream would be, is to be able to have a place near our grandchildren so we can have a place to stay whenever we go and for whoever wants to go. 💗

My current dream is that my family find an exit from their paranoia over the virus so we can celebrate together the way we used to. I’m really missing those wonderful times.

My dream is to have my more than $97,000. in federal student loans to be forgiven. This actually might happy in the next month or two. I initially owed less than $50,000, but every time I received an economic hardship deferment, interest was still accumulated. Right now, I’m doing okay: working a lot of hours, lots of love from family and friends, going grocery shopping and buying what I want, . . .

My dream is to be a better ballroom dancer especially in waltz. I have been taking private lessons 2-3 times per week to fulfill that dream.
