Mike has been writing The Overlords fantasy book series for over twenty years. Currently, he lives in Tiverton, RI with his wife Lea, and their children, Devin and Samantha. Mike is a popular speaker at elementary, middle, and high schools, colleges, local libraries, and writer’s groups, where his sincere hope is to inspire everyone he meets to be creative and follow their dreams. He currently serves as the president of the Association of Rhode Island Authors (ARIA).
Active in fitness and sports, Mike plays baseball where he is a knuckleball pitcher for the Rhode Island Brewers, a team that won the 2008 and 2014 National Championships in Phoenix, AZ. He also runs 4 to 5 miles on a regular basis, does interval weight and cardio training, and takes Vinyasa yoga classes twice a week. Did we mention that he’s an engineer working on Homeland Defense projects, too?

Mike Squatrito is the greatest knuckleball pitcher never to pitch in the Major Leagues. However, not making it to The Show did not stop his baseball career. Being an undersized athlete his whole life, Mike honed his skills and perfected one of the trickiest pitches to master. Facing hitters twice his size, Mike rose through the ranks of youth sports and organized leagues, leaving a trail of championships in his wake.
However, he could not do this all on his own. Mike’s journey brought him to the Rhode Island Brewers, a group of loveable, hard playing, beer guzzling, former ballplayers who had the same desire to win. And, win they did. The stories of state and national titles speak for themselves but the mini adventures that occurred along the way uniquely identified this team. The players so revered the game that they created a Constitution to fine those who broke team rules and it became part of their team’s folklore. Join Mike and his teammates on a wild and inspirational ride across the country in their quest to continue playing America’s Greatest Pastime and to just keep winning.
If you love winning, too, you’ll want to win a copy of this terrific book. Just leave a comment on this post and let us know your favorite sports team.
Join us on SATURDAY, DECEMBER 11, from 9:00am to 3:00pm at the CROWNE PLAZA in Warwick for the 9th Annual Rhode Island Authors Expo!

Always interesting to hear what people do with their lives on stories that don’t show up on the front page of the local paper’s sports page! Zulu Delta!

Winning is always an honor and a goal…but the journey and lessons along the way are what stick for a lifetime! My favorite team would be the hockey teams my son plays for…but professionally I’m a Boston fan in all sports!

Congratulations Mike on all your books. Love Winning sounds great. Did you play for Bristol HS? I played first base and caught in HS when our catcher broke his hand. I remember as a kid trying to perfect the knuckleball with a friend. Occasionally, I got it to hop, but much too difficult for me. It was best that I played FB and catcher.
PS, my son is a mechanical engineer with NUWC.

Mike, congratulations on your winning Overlords series! And on top of your creative efforts, we now find that you are also a winning baseball pitcher! The Red Sox could use you. The Boston Sox are my favorite team, btw.

My favorite team is always the one my dear granddaughter plays on! She is 15, a serious pitcher who says it’s all about winning but will be the first one to support every player wholeheartedly when they’re game is off! Your love of this game constantly brought her spirit to mind and I would love to share your book with her! I am inspired by how you are embracing life so fully and can’t imagine how you are fitting it all in with such energy and love!

Favorite team – Red Sox! I live in a divided house. My son and I are Red Sox fans and hubby is a dreaded Yankee fan. (aka “the Dark Side”). I’d love to win a copy of the book to share with my son. Thanks!

Wow Mike, you’re a busy man and talented. Congrats on your achievements. I don’t have a favorite team. I actively watched my children in sports and bands many years ago. I may soon be actively watching sports when my grandson plays.

Mike, you inspire us all! I’d love to read about your baseball adventures and have my fingers crossed I’ll win a signed copy. My favorite team is the Red Sox (my first book was set during the 2004 penant race).

2004 was epic and magical! Red Sox baseball will never be the same after that win!

When you love to do something, do it for as long as you can. My baseball days ended long ago, so I switched to tennis and golf, though I’ve never seen a knuckleball in either of these sports!! Knuckleballers can last almost forever…stick with it, Mike!

Mike, you inspire on many levels! How wonderful that you share your talents and dreams with elementary school children.
I would love to win your memoir. I’m not particularly active or athletic (I had to give up running. I read with a touch of envy that you run 4-5 miles frequently), nor do I follow sports that much, but I must admit to a fondness for our Red Sox, both Boston and the former PawSox.

Connie, I’ve been going to elementary schools and sparking young minds for years. The kids are always fantastic and you never know what they’re going to dream up!

Wow! I knew you played baseball, Mike, but I didn’t know of your fame as a RI Brewer and knuckleball pitcher! I’d love to read about your adventures with the Brewers. My favorite team is whichever one any of my grandchildren is playing on. One of them plays centerfield on his high school team. I have also rooted for the Red Sox since I was a little girl and I asked my father if they really wore red socks. Since my favorite color was red, when he said, “Yes,” I became a fan.
