As a former college radio station DJ, BJ was inspired to write her novel Beside the Music after asking herself, ‘Whatever happened to all those 80s rock stars and one-hit wonders?’ Her writing career has contributions to RI Fit Magazine and the newest ARIA anthology, Green. But her prouder achievements are her original angry chick rock songs, usually about bad boyfriends, accompanied by her out-of-tune guitar. She blogs at http://bjknapp.com
BJ resides in Rhode Island with her husband, Todd, and their dog Phin. She is an avid sailor and scuba diver, and also enjoys pretty much any outdoor activity such as hiking and geocaching as well. She has also single-handedly orchestrated hundreds of failed attempts at cooking.

BJ has offered to gift a copy of either Beside the Music or Green to one lucky winner. Print copy for US only, please. Just leave a comment mentioning which book you would prefer and you’re eligible to win!
Join us on SATURDAY, DECEMBER 11, from 9:00am to 3:00pm at the CROWNE PLAZA in Warwick for the 9th Annual Rhode Island Authors Expo!
I missed the contest but enjoyed reading your bio. I still listen to 80’s music

BJ, I have failed miserably as a chef. So your cooking failures are tiny…which leads me to encouraging you to not give up on trying new recipes. Does your husband think your cooking is a failure?

Forever a fan of rock and roll, but this week I’m thinking Green with COP 26.

As one of a family of self-confessed music nerds, I would love to win “Beside the Music.”

Hello BJ
I just read your story “The Unexpected Recovery”. Nice job! Don’t worry, I won’t give away the tie-in to Green. My daughter-in-law is also a DJ (FUN 107) and I used to scuba dive in the bay, RI Sound, and Block Island sound – so I we have a small connection. I’d love to read your book “Beside the Music.” I could talk with my daughter-in-law about it. Thanks, and good luck with your book.

I won Beside the Music as well. Loved it! I am a huge rock ‘n roll chick so it was lots of fun to read. I did provide an excellent review too 🙂 Maybe I’ll be lucky enough to win Green. All the best!

Would love a signed copy of Beside the Music. FYI: I work on genealogy and I am a descendant of Mose Knapp b. 1645 and Abigail Westcott of CT.

Both books sound like great reading. As a musician, I lead towards Beside the Music.

So … what is geocaching? It sounds like rock climbing in which one hides crystals in the rock face for other rock climbers to try to find, like hide-and-seek.

I had to Google geocaching because I had never heard of it. That sounds like fun! I would be excited to win either copy, so if I’m the lucky winner, surprise me.

What an interesting idea fot a story: what did happen to all those 80s rock stars and one hit wonders. My curiosity is peaked! Having been through six decades of music, I think the 80s had some of the best music, topped only by the Beatles.

I appreciate your story, BJ. I didn’t realize angry chick rock was a thing! While that sounds a bit frightening, scuba diving is something I always wanted to do…until I saw Jaws on the big screen.

Hi BJ! I won Beside the Music a few years ago. Thank you again. I wrote a review at Goodreads. This time, please enter me for Green. Back to Beside the Music; I would not want to host a musician. LOL It was fun reading though.
