Donna McCarthy is a semi-retired Art teacher, currently teaching HS art part-time in Rhode Island, which allows her the time to create her picture books. Donna is both author and illustrator with a BFA in illustrations and an MA in education.
At the age of 50, Donna had some big life changes and moved across the country, leaving every part of her former life other than her daughter and her dog, ready to take a chance on her dream. Her books are the result of the last three years of effort.
Donna has self-published five picture books, with three more in the works. She writes for primary level readers and intermediate level readers. Her books are great for the tiny ones as well since the pictures are large, colorful, and whimsical and the rhyming helps with phonemic awareness. She is also aware of being inclusive since we live in such a beautiful world filled with a blessed variety of beautiful people. She has a blast making them and she thinks she is more entertained sometimes than her readers. Donna also offers a free school assembly or reading/drawing tutorial for a business or organization that caters to kids.
Donna’s online store can be found at www.missmacbooks.com.
The book she’s giving away is “Some People’s Grandpas,” a whimsical look at all the unique and silly types of grandpas out there.
Hope to see you on Saturday, December 1 at the Rhode Island Author Expo!
