An inspiring story about friendship, kindness, resilience, bravery and self-acceptance. Most people don’t realize how often bullying occurs with young children. Join Aria, India, and their Angel Friends, as they deal with the difficult issue of bullying and smart ways to resolve an upsetting experience. Aria’s Angel Friend, Michael, gives her some great ideas like to hold her head high, walk away and sing… “I will smile and I will shine. Look at me, I’m just fine. I won’t let you bring me down. I love the use of smiling as a positive theme and a way of dealing with bullying.

Four powerful words, “Let your smile shine”. Do you remember that old saying, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me”? Well, it’s untrue. Some words do hurt. Words can wound, but words can also brighten the spirit. Angel Friends is the perfect book to shine a light on all that is good – kindness, respect, self-acceptance and so much more.

There is a class I know that could use this book! I just wish there was one for the middle school! Although the middle schoolers are less likely to think they are being bullied, especially when the bullies are the “cool kids.”

My children and grandchildren are long past those days when I could read a children’s book to them at night, but this is one that I certainly wish I had back in the day. Books that discuss all the Christian values that are so important for children, both today and throughout time, are certainly needed now more than ever. In that sense, Tara Williams’ books are perfect reading.
Her themes of respect, kindness, accepting differences, standing up to bullies, resilience, friendship, bravery might make her book a good read for those adults serving in public life too!!
