It’s been a very long time since I’ve seen Paris. When I look at these photographs, I’m transported back in time. Walking around the city with a paper map in one hand. Envying the French women and their style, so effortless. The scent of buttery croissants. Ghosts of Victor Hugo, Ernest Hemingway, Maurice Chevalier. Painters. Gypsies. Tourists. Lovers.

Notre-Dame Cathedral (above). The ubiquitous Eiffel Tower (below).

“If you are lucky enough to have lived in Paris as a young man, then wherever you go for the rest of your life it stays with you, for Paris is a moveable feast.” (E. Hemingway)
And to end with a video. Here is a Spaniard (Julio Iglesias) singing a song about the sea (La Mer), better known to many of you as “Beyond the Sea,” sung by Bobby Darin. This is from 1976, hence the disco vibe. I love it, but then, I belong to a different time.
Paris…ah yes? I have been to the lower levels of the Tower 3 times; I just can’t seem to get to the top! Once closed, twice crowded! It’s a great walk up the stairs though! I had some great chinese food there, and some of the trains have rubber wheels….very cool!

I only walked up to the first landing, too. I don’t know, the pinnacle just wasn’t a target for me.

Thanks Martha. I started following your blog after reading a couple of your readings in the Catholic Lenten book. I too loved Paris a few years ago when I ran the Paris Marathon with 3 girl friends. It was a wonderful trip with great memories. Enjoying your travel blog

Amazing photos, Martha. It has a very Bogart- Bergman Casablanca type feel. 🙂

Love the pictures! And that happens to be Dick’s favorite song (as sung by Bobby Darin) so I sent it to him with an email written in French that will leave him nuts trying to figure it out. Love how you are doing this A-Z challenge. With all my travels, I’d be hard pressed to figure where I’d been covering the alphabet!

Martha, these photographs are gorgeous! Paris really lends itself to B&W photography. I lived there for 6 months after leaving school. I au-paired and went to art school during the day. Fabulous time in a wonderful city ❤

Lottie, I worked as an au pair in Switzerland after college, and the woman I worked for was IN LOVE with Julio Iglesias! This reminds me of the autographed photo she kept on the bathroom door. 🙂
